Alpha Iota History
At Kansas State University Beta Pi Epsilon was founded February 2, 1923, and became the Alpha Iota Chapter of Theta Xi November 7, 1931. Sixteen members traveled to St. Louis where they were initiated by the Iota Chapter of Washington University on November 6th. The installation Ceremonies on November 7th were highlighted by a formal banquet at the Coronado Hotel of St. Louis, attended by many area members and national officers. The sixteen Charter Members returned to Manhattan and initiated eight additional brothers on November 14th. (Among these were Jules H. Robert, AI 17, long-time DGL and chapter advisor.)
After difficult times in the early 1960's the chapter disbanded in 1965. Six years later, in 1971, Alpha Iota Chapter of Theta Xi began its official decolonization effort under the guidance of the late Jerry Lilly (KE 34) who was the assistant administrator to the Vice-President of Student Affairs at the time, and Duane Fox who at the time was an undergraduate member of the Mu chapter at Iowa State. The chapter was reinstated on April 29, 1972. On Friday, April 28th twenty-six new members of the Alpha Iota chapter were initiated. Since that time Alpha Iota has grown and prospered to become one of the best fraternities at Kansas State University.
